June Book Club with Vicki Lorini
No doubt you have heard the buzz that we are starting a book club! It will be led by local literary lover Vicki Lorini and the April pick is Love & Saffron: A Novel of Friendship, Food, and Love by Kim Fay.
Due to CoVid restrictions and guidelines we will be limiting attendance to 20 people, however we will keep a list of interested alternates in case one of the first 20 to sign up can't make it. Also, if there is enough interest in the event, we might attempt a Zoom option as well (full disclosure, we are book people so that technological leap might prove a bridge too far but we will do our level best if desire outpaces capacity). Because of the 20 person limit we ask that if you sign up and are unable to attend that you please call and let us know so that your spot won't go to waste.
In addition to the cap on attendance we will also be requiring all attendees to be fully masked - nose and mouth - for the entirety of the meeting, regardless of vaccination status. We love this book and cannot wait to hear what you all thought but the safety of our community comes first.
If you want to sign up to attend, please give us a call at the store 530-272-2131 or sign up in person. Those are the only two ways to get on the list, not via email or social media, so we look forward to hearing from you soon!
Below is a letter from Vicki about this new book club:
Dear Book Seller Book Club Readers, My name is a Vicki Lorini and I am over the moon to let you know we are starting a book club at The Book Seller and I will be its leader. I’ve lived in Grass Valley for 36 years, but my book career started 10 years earlier in Palo Alto. I was fortunate to work for two “Carriage Trade” bookstores there, before moving here and working at Four Seasons Card and Bookstore for 14 years. Then to Borders Books and Music and finally at Capital Public Radio as the coordinator for CapRadio Reads, an author series and Book Club. I’m very happy to be back in Grass Valley at my all-time favorite store doing what I love most, leading a book club. I hope to share my favorite books with you, on a monthly basis. We will meet, at the store, on the third Thursday of every month (except December). The books will be a combination of Hardback and Paperback and the store is happy to give members a 10% discount* on the chosen titles, as well as earning bookclub credit. This club will use books written for adults, but younger readers who are interested in the selection are encouraged to join us. We’ll maintain a list of members, for communication purposes, but if you can’t make it, or aren’t interested in the chosen title, you won’t be kicked out. We will strive to make this as inclusive as we can and will choose titles from a broad range of authors and genres. For now, we will adhere to whatever Covid restrictions are in place, again, to make this as safe and inclusive as we can. I look forward to seeing you in January, for our first meeting and the book is Still Life by Sarah Winman. Thank you for supporting this wonderful, independent bookstore and for your interest. Cheers, |
*The Book Seller will offer a 10% discount for purchase of the physical copy for each month’s book club selection. You can check out our website if you want to download the audiobook or eBook through our partners, LibroFM and Kobo.
